Annual Awards Banquet

Tickets are on sale now for the Annual Awards Banquet. Last year’s banquet had over 40 WSCC members in attendance, as well as members from the Baltimore club, Graebner and Springfield as well. This year’s event will be held once again at Johnny Chung’s Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown, and if we sell at least 40 tickets, we’ll reserve the upstairs banquet room again. That is something we definitely want to do!

The Awards Banquet honors distinguished members responsible for outstanding support of the WSCC as well as philately in general. Two special awards are given, and each can be researched on the WSCC website: www.dcstampclub.org. The DeVoss Trophy is given to the Club member who has performed outstanding service to the Club during the past year. The Gantz Cup is given to a non-member who has provided outstanding service to the hobby during the past year.

If you are interested in attending the Banquet this year, send an email to the Despatch editor for details on securing tickets. Each ticket is $25, and the event and the food is well worth the price! Also, if you have comments or suggestions about the event, please submit them! Especially pictures of previous Banquets!

Catching up

Once again, the Annual Banquet was a big success. President C.A. Stillions started the event with a moment of silence and asked us to give a quiet moment of thanks for another great year of the WSCC. Program Director Daniel Piazza announced the

business card-sized calendar of upcoming events for 2011. Each member received two cards, one for themselves and one for distribution. Dan Piazza is helping push the WSCC in a strong direction for upcoming year, and the list of programs is very exciting. National Postal Museum Research Chair, Thomas Lera, was awarded the non-WSCC member prize, the Gantz Cup, for service to the hobby. WSCC member, Tadas Osmolskis, was awarded the DeVoss Trophy for service to the club. Tadas is an inspiration to the club, and his auctioneer skills simply are unmatched.

  3. I always love the annual Awards Banquet. The food is delicious and the company is great. I think we should have Tony Cheng’s deliver to our regular venue every once in a while! Thank you also to Ida Marie for taking such great pictures, and the program was spectacular as well.
